JONAS Sultan, one of the up-and-coming fighters of ALA Boxing Gym, will gun for a regional title in hostile territory as he will face South African Makazole Tete on Dec. 16 in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
At stake in the fight is Tete’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-continental super flyweight champion belt.
The 24-year-old Sultan, who is the reigning Philippine super flyweight champion, is not new to fighting abroad as he already fought twice in Japan. He has 11 wins, seven of them by knockouts, and three losses.
Sultan won his last two fights by knockouts. He won his current belt last May in Bacolod City where he scored a fifth-round knockout against Romel Oliveros. He also pulled off a second round TK win over Japanese Tatsuya Ikemizu this year in Osaka, Japan.
According to ALA Promotions International match maker Edito Villamor, Sultan was supposed to fight for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) World super flyweight title against former champion Gideon Buthelezi of South Africa last Nov. 25, but the fight was canceled after the production team encountered some problems.
Tete sports a 15W-1L-2D-11KOs card. He pocketed the IBF belt last July by knocking out Filipino Raymond Tabugon in Eastern Cape, South Africa in the fifth round.
