Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is set to meet for the first time the urban poor group in the city during the opening of the Urban Poor Solidarity Week on December 2.

Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor head Genevieve Alcoseba said the urban poor sector has been wanting to hear Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s solidarity message.

“It is because this will be his (Osmeña) first time to face the urban poor after the covenant signing in Capitol,” she said.
Urban poor groups in the city were invited to witness the covenant signing for the long overdue issue on Provincial Ordinance 93-1 in April this year.

The signing of the land swap deal is among the issues the group wants to hear more about.

Alcoseba said they expect the deal to be settled and finalized anytime within the weeklong celebrated slated on December 2 to 8.

Several activities are lined-up including a Solidarity Walk on December 2, which will start at Fuente Osmeña Circle and will end in front of Cebu City Hall’s legislative building where an opening program will be held including Osmeña’s Solidarity Speech.

At least 5,000 individuals are set to participate.
Alcoseba said the other activities include an exhibit of housing agencies, free legal and medical mission and many other presentations.

“We’ll let them (urban poor) feel that they are also special. They are not second class citizens, they are the priority of Mayor Osmeña’s administration,” Alcoseba said.
