A SPECIAL group of women, unreported in the news, will take center stage on Friday for a choral concert that is part of their own healing as survivors of violence.
The women are clients of the Legal Alternative for Women Center Inc. (Law Inc.) who have organized themselves into a group called “SURVIVORS”.
The concert is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Cebu City.
Through the years, LAW Center Inc. has been assisting women in their legal and psychological battle against abuses by their husbands and partners. The concert is a way of supporting their healing process by honing their innate musicality and self-confidence as empowered women, said Dolores M. Aliño, LAW Inc. executive director in a press statement.
Proceeds from the concert will be used to support livelihood projects of the group and promote the center’s advocacy for authentic women development, said Virginia Palanca Santiago, retired Assistant Ombudsman and president of the board of LAW Center Inc.
The center, whose office is in Sikatuna Street, offers free legal and psycho-social services to women victims of violence, particularly those involving wife batttering, incest, rape, sexual harassment and trafficking.
