THE NATIONAL University Lady Bulldogs squad emerged as champions of the senior women division of the Smart Philippine Taekwondo League last Saturday at SM Southmall in Las Piñas.
NU trounced Ateneo de Manila University in the finals of the team-style, inter-collegiate competition, 29-24.
Part of the NU team was Cebuana Nica Garces. The 17-year-old is a former University of Cebu stalwart who was recruited by the Lady Bulldogs last Summer.
NU nipped De La Salle University in the semifinals, 15-14, to book their title duel with the Lady Eagles. In the quarterfinals, NU posted a 25-7 rout of the University of the Philippines.
Lyceum of the Philippines University took third place after defeating DLSU, 39-36.
NU coach Jeff Figueroa was awarded as Best Coach while Rheza Aragon took home the Best Player award.
NU’s senior men’s squad also ruled in their division with a 57-35 thumping on the University of Santo Tomas.
