KAPUSO actress Jennylyn Mercado, who will play the role of Steffi Cheon for the GMA adaptation of “My Love From the Star” has finally found her Matteo Do.
And he’s model-turned-actor Gil Cuerva.
It’s going to be Gil’s first acting project, but the Filipino-Spanish model promised to give it his best shot by portraying how a typical Filipino loves his girl.
“Ipapakita ko kung paano ako magmahal ng isang babae. I want to show my romantic side and I want to portray kung paano magmahal ang isang Pinoy through the character of Matteo,” he said during the live interview with “Chika Minute” host Iya Villania in Kapuso network’s evening news program, 24 Oras.
GMA-7 will be soon air the remake of the hit Korean drama series.
Prior to this big break, the 21-year-old model has been all over the magazine covers.
His defined jaws, chinito eyes and mid-length hair, Gil is a headturner, with some comparing his looks to that of model Borgy Manotoc.
Director Joyce Bernal, who is directing the series, initially had announced that Alden Richards was playing the role of Matteo Do.
But the role eventually went to Gil. Matteo is an alien who got stuck on Earth for 400 years and will eventually fall in love with a human named Steffi.
In a separate GMA interview at the opening of the Quezon City branch of his new resto, Concha’s Garden Cafe, Alden said not being able to portray Matteo Do has paved way for another blessing.
“Basically if things are not meant to be or given to you, may mas okey na kapalit or mas may deserving dun sa na let go na
opportunity. So, tayo naman nili-lead tayo ni Lord with the things that we deserve … So, I believe na there are things that are meant for us and there are things that are not meant for us,” he said.
Alden and the other half of the phenomenal AlDub love team, Maine Mendoza, will topbill one of the GMA primetime series slated for next year.
According to the Kapuso actor, both of them are now underdoing workshops, but there is no definite date yet for the start of the shoot.
