Vessel bound for Cebu cancels trip

A VESSEL from Iloilo City that was headed to Cebu had to cancel its trip last night after one of its generators broke down.

Chief Petty Officer Albino Rodriguez of the Philippine Coast Guard Iloilo station said MV Trans-Asia 8 was scheduled to leave the Iloilo City port at 6 p.m. yesterday and arrive in Cebu at 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. today.

He said the vessel could have made the trip but the management decided otherwise since repairs would mean inconveniencing the passengers.

Rodriguez said the owner refunded the tickets of all 171 passengers while perishable goods like fish were transferred to other vessels.

Some passengers chose to spend the night at the passenger terminal.

The next Cebu-bound vessel, MV Filipinas Jagna of Cokaliong Shipping, is scheduled to leave at 7 p.m. today. Rodriguez said the others chose to take a fast craft to Bacolod instead.

Other passengers chose to travel by land while the rest rode a Ro-Ro vessel bound for Cebu.

Rodriguez said MV Trans-Asia 8 is currently docked at the Iloilo City port for repairs.
