At least 50 members of the Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) fraternity distributed clothing, rice and canned goods to victims of last Monday’s Barangay Apas fire, which razed around 112 houses and displaced at least 1,000 individuals.

The activity is part of the community outreach program of the Akrho Alumni, that are chapters based in Barangay Apas.

“Basically, this is part sa amoang community outreach program kay usa sa goal jud sa fraternity is mutabang sa komunidad (Basically, this is part of our community outreach program because one of the goals of the fraternity is to help the community),” said Cloyd Dedicatoria, Akrho alumni/advisor and alumni.

“At least, makahatag pud mi ug hope so at least makabarog dayon sila, makatabang sad mi in our own little way (At least we can help and give them hope. And we can also help them get on with their lives as quickly as possible. And we can help them in our own little way),” Dedicatoria said.

The group also gave out porridge and orange juice to the fire victims including the children who are still in the fire site.

Dedicatoria said that three of their members were among those whose houses were gutted by the fire.

Seeing the situation at the site of the fire incident, Dedicatoria encouraged the other members of the group for assistance in kind, which they could course through them.

He also said that they do not accept cash donations and prefer additional manpower instead.

He said we need manpower to help repack groceries and used clothing to distribute to those in need during their outreach programs.
