Taxi drivers who are picky on passengers are the target of “Oplan Isnabero” to be launched by the regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) this week.
“We have field enforcers and will apprehend drivers who refuse passengers or choose which destinations they wish to go to,” LTFRB-7 director Ahmed Cuizon said.
Joining the LTFRB campaign are the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Philippine National Police (PNP).
Cuizon said daily patrols will be done to monitor the taxi drivers.
“Refusing passengers is a violation. In the first place, their taxi franchise is for the entire province of Cebu. So they don’t need to ask and agree with the passenger on the
destinations. The driver is duty-bound to serve the passenger,” Cuizon said.
Under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01, violators will be fined P6,000.
Due to the larger volume of passengers, the LTFRB-7 is set to provide provisional authority to Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) in Cebu.
The provisional authority starts on Thursday this week and ends on January 30.
LTFRB-7 started to review 700 applications for Grabcar and Uber last week for the issuance of PAs valid for 45 days.
“LTFRB-7 is inviting applicants of TNVS franchises who filed their applications prior to September 8, 2016 to verify from our office if they are already eligible for issuance of 45-day Provisional Authorities,” Cuizon said.
