It’s Minglanilla vs. Talisay for Gullas Cup crown

TALISAY CITY and Minglanilla will clash for all the marbles in the Samsam Gullas Cup after they vanquished their opponents in the semifinals on Sunday at the two teams’ home courts.

Talisay, the top seed after finishing the double round-robin eliminations with a 9-1 win-loss record, demolished Carcar City by a whopping 30 points, 89-59, at the Talisay City gym.

The lopsided victory allowed the boys from Talisay to book their seat in the best-of-three finals, which starts this weekend.

Vyron Villanel was named Best Player of the Game as he put up across-the-board numbers of 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Standing in Talisay’s way will be Minglanilla, which squeaked past San Fernando, 82-78, at the Minglanilla gym.

Kevin Quimson spearheaded Minglanilla’s charge into the championship round with a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards laced with two blocked shots.

Game 1 of the finals will be this Friday at the Talisay City Gym while Game 2 will be on the next day at the Minglanilla Gym. Game Three, if needed, will be on Sunday, back in Talisay.
