Bullecer: Distributing condoms in schools a ‘wrong move’

DISTRIBUTING condoms will just promote promiscuity among the students, according to pro-life groups in Cebu.

Human life advocate Dr. Rene Bullecer said that the Department of Health’s (DOH) initiative to distribute condoms in schools to combat the rise of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) among Filipino teenagers is practically a “wrong move.”

Pro-life groups such as Human Life International Philippines led by Bullecer, Association of Women Religious in Cebu, among others conducted a prayer rally in front of the DOH on Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City yesterday morning to show their protest against the proposed distribution of condoms by DOH in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd).

“We have to tell a clear message to them (DOH) that what they are doing is basically wrong. Not even a disguise of foretelling that it’s for HIV or AIDS in the country,” Bullecer said.

As a doctor of medicine, Bullecer said there is no proof that the promotion of condoms will lead to the decrease of HIV and AIDS cases.

“That is even contrary. There is no single country in the whole world today that shows cases of HIV and AIDS have gone down after promoting condoms,” Bullecer said.

Bullecer said that giving away condoms will just lead to promiscuity.

“So we are asking them (DOH), were the parents consulted? DOH never made any public consultation especially among the parents,” Bullecer said.

Bullecer said they will have another big prayer rally January next year and it will be held at the Capitol Grounds.
