THERE will be no love lost between Talisay City and Minglanilla when the two teams clash for all the marbles in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals series of the Samsam Gullas Cup today at the Talisay City Complex.
Talisay, the tournament’s most formidable team which has lost just once in this competition, will have homecourt advantage and will try to get a headstart in what is expected to be a fiercely-fought series.
Talisay will lean on Mythical Five members Jhiey Paraldo and Richmon Lapinid, who leads the league in rebounding with 12 caroms per outing.
Minglanilla, on the other hand, will go to war behind the league’s top scorer, Marc Nebril, who averages 20.9 points per outing during the elimination round. His sidekick and fellow Mythical Five member, Jiesel Tarrosa, who puts up 16.3 markers and 8.7 rebounds per game, is also expected to play a significant role for the title bid of Minglanilla.
Talisay advanced to the finals with an 89-59 beatdown of Carcar City in the semis. Minglanilla carved out its path to the finals with an 82-78 win over San Fernando.
Game 2 of the series will be held tomorrow at the Minglanilla Sports Complex while Game 3, if needed, will head back to Talisay City.
Carcar and San Fernando battle for third place at 6 p.m. at the San Fernando Sports Complex.
