Twelve people were injured after a privately-owned multicab pickup slammed into the center island along Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City early Sunday afternoon.
Ricardo Gallardo, 53, the driver, and 11 passengers, who are members of the Alferez clan on their way to a reunion, were rushed to the hospital for treatment after the vehicle crashed a post in the center island.
PO2 Gaudencio Gatig, investigator of the Cebu City Traffic Office, said that the vehicle driven by Gallardo, who was hired by one of the Alferez clan to drive the vehicle, came from Barangay Mambaling on its way to a family reunion in Barangay Basak, Cebu City.
According to investigation, Gatig said, that Gallardo was cruising along N. Bacalso Avenue at 1:22 p.m. when a public utility jeepney suddenly started veering right.
Gallardo said he steered his vehicle to the left to avoid hitting the jeepney and slammed instead to a post in the center island.
According to the CCTO report, the crash caused the post to be uprooted from the center island.
Gallardo and his passengers including seven minors were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.
Catig said that they were conducting a further investigation on the accident.
