Expect a rainy Christmas

RAINS and a possible storm threaten Cebu and other areas in the Visayas this week.

Romeo Aguirre, weather specialist at Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan, said the northeast monsoon (Amihan) has affected the weather system in the country.

“There is a developing low pressure area (LPA) now. It’s possible that it will develop into tropical cyclone,” Aguirre told Cebu Daily News.

Once it becomes tropical cyclone and enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it will be named Nina.

Pagasa’s forecast for December is at least one to two tropical cyclones more.

The northeast monsoon or the Amihan winds will bring rainfall and cold winds from Siberia. The weather bureau officially announced the onset of Amihan last November.

Amihan pulls the tropical cyclones downward and most of them are strong since Pacific Ocean is hotter.

As of last night, Pagasa Mactan recorded rainfall of 109.3 millimeters. Average normal rainfall for December is 148.1 millimeters.
