The Cebu City government continues to dump its garbage at the one-hectare lot at the SRP which it calls a transfer station (CDN PHOTO/LITO TECSON).

The Environmental Management Bureau in Central Visayas (EMB 7) will issue a cease and desist order (CDO) to stop the dumping of garbage at the South Road Properies (SRP).

EMB-7’s chief legal officer Unalee Monares made this announcement on Tuesday morning during the 888 News Forum at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel Cebu.

Three days have passed since Cebu City started dumping its average of 500 tons per day of garbage at the one-hectare property located in SRP which exceeds the 24-hour time limit to transfer the garbage to a sanitary landfill.

He said there is no environmental compliance certificate (ECC) for the specific garbage facility at SRP.

The notice of violation and CDO will be issued anytime on Tuesday or Wednesday since the legal office is still waiting for the signature of EMB-7 Director William Cuñado.

“For the illegal dumping, we refer it to our central office. It is up to them if they would issue another CDO or file appropriate charges,” Monares told the reporters.

EMB-7’s monitoring team visited the SRP site yesterday.
