ROSARY FOR THE NEW YEAR

While most people welcome the New Year with firecrackers and parties, a monsignor has taught his household staff another way of embracing the year.

He gathers his priests and staff members and pray the rosary together.

The monsignor wants to emphasize the importance of prayer and God in yet another year.

IMPOSSIBLE

Close to a hundred barangays in Cebu were declared “drug-free” by authorities.

A radio commentator believes otherwise.

“Dili ko motuo nga walay maski gamay nga drugas aning mga barangay. Imposible kaayo na,” he said.

MARY, MOTHER OF GOD

For Catholics, the first day of the year is also the Solemnity of Mary as the “mother of God.”

Other religions question the title given to Mary as “mother of God,” saying a human being cannot become God’s mother.

A lay Catholic, however, was quick to defend the title given to Mary.

“Are Catholics the first to address Mary as ‘mother of God?’ Certainly not!” he said.

“Scripture tells us that ‘when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”’

“And how does this happen to me, that the ‘MOTHER OF MY LORD’ should come to me?” he added.

He said St. Elizabeth, who was inspired by the Holy Spirit, was clearly the first to address Mary as “mother of God.”
