Sinulog 2017: Power transformer explodes, areas of Osmeña Blvd without power

BREAKING
(UPDATED) A VECO transformer on Osmeña Blvd near the PLDT office bursted around 11:15 am. Witnesses in the area reported hearing 3 loud banging sounds. The damaged transformer caused a blackout in some areas in Osmeña Blvd, including the police station.
VECO personnel are on the way to fix it, according to the Fuente Police Station. Only the electrical post was damaged.

Supt. Artemio Ricabo said that there were no injuries, but one person fainted. “Daghan nanagan mao tong nangadagma pero walay na injured,” Ricabo said.

Marilou Baylon told Cebu Daily News that while she was serving a customer she heard three loud thuds. “Kusog laayo siya murag boto sa armas. Nidagan ko oy akong gibiyaan akong tindahan,” she said.

A female staff from Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CCDRRMC), who refused to be named, said that the woman will be brought to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for further treatment. “Pagbuto sa transformer nanagan sila unya naghuot na. There was a balloon reported nga nasangit,” she told Cebu Daily News.  (The people panicked when the transformer exploded, causing them to run in confusion and crowd the area away from the explosion)

The transformer caused a sudden blackout at the Cebu City Sports Complex (CCSC) Grandstand where Sinulog activities are taking place. But power was quickly restored.The explosion also caused power interruption in Barangay Sambag 1 and Sambag 2.
