THE PHILIPPINE men’s and women’s volleyball teams will be conducting a three-day open tryouts this February at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.
The tryouts will run from Feb. 18 to 20.
The team is hoping to find the right pieces for their stint in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Philippines is hoping to end a 14-year gold medal drought in the biennial SEAG.
It can be recalled that now University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) mentor Grace Antigua and Cebuana Thelma Barina were part of the team that won the last SEAG gold medal for the country in 1993.
“We have to search for players from around the country to give athletes from the province a chance to show their potential. I know firsthand that there are lot of potential players in Cebu,” said newly appointed men’s head coach Sammy Acaylar.
The women’s tryouts, which will be headed by mentor Francis Vicente, will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. while the men’s tryouts are slated at 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Acaylar is preferably looking for graduates so that there won’t be any conflict of schedules with school and team practices. Training starts this April.
