PLAIN-clothed traffic personnel will blend in with pedestrians while keeping an eye out for violators of Mandaue City’s Anti-Jaywalking Ordinance.
“It’s time we impose strict measures to enforce discipline in obeying traffic rules and regulations here in Mandaue,” said Glenn Antigua, chief of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team).
He said civilian-attired traffic personnel will still wear their Team ID cards as they patrol the streets, and they will be assigned to areas with the highest volume of pedestrians.
Team initially assigned its personnel at Barangay Centro, one of the city’s main points of convergence where City Hall, the St. Joseph Parish Church, St. Joseph Academy, a public market, a shopping mall and a hardware store were all located.
Antigua said they apprehended 1,200 traffic violators for each of the two-day enforcement of the ordinance. Since then traffic flow had been smooth, Antigua said.
“We are so quick to obeying traffic rules and regulations when we are in a different city or state while we are so keen in complaining when we are reminded of our own traffic rules here,” Antigua said.
“We will not stop reminding the people of the rules,” he added.
