The first week of US President Donald J. Trump was filled with controversy as he issued numerous executive orders that somehow made good on his campaign promises.
His first executive order that ordered the building of a wall between Mexico and the US with the cost being shouldered by Mexico was immediately refuted by Mexico President Nieto, who canceled his US visit because of it.
Then he ordered the ban on US nationals from seven Muslim countries that included Sudan, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Somalia and another country that I forgot for now.
The ban has alarmed immigrants in the US who fear they may be deported and thus separated from their families.
The immigration ban created chaos among airports in the US as many traveling immigrants staged protests to denounce the order.
Another controversial executive order issued by the brand new president was the withdrawal of federal aid to sanctuary states that refused to implement the order.
The order was met with defiance by some mayors and governors of the US. Trump also made the rather incredulous pronouncement that any fraud that may have occurred in the last election was committed by illegal immigrants though he didn’t have any evidence to back up the claim.
The critical US media had been labeled by Mr. Trump as the opposition and he used this to set up his own “alternative facts” which the US media industry claim is just another word for falsehood.
Trump’s orders may be questioned by the rest of the world, but back in the US, it was met with approval by a lot of Americans.
The vetting of immigrants was aimed at protecting the American public from terrorists.
Another controversial executive order is the ban on refugees traveling to the US for 120 days.
The order was so unpopular that Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau countered by saying that the Canadian government is going to welcome the refugees to Canada.
Let me reiterate my initial analysis that the white Americans voted for Trump because it gives them the great opportunity to reclaim their position in the US because many of them were sidelined by the prominence of colored Americans in both domestic and international affairs.
America is first for the Americans and nothing else that’s why the American public is happy with the vetting order and why it has angered many immigrants.
