FORMER University of Southern Philippines Foundation standout Joseph Sedurifa canned the go-ahead jumper that pushed Batangas to an 88–85 win over the Victoria Sports-MLQU in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup yesterday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Sedurifa, a former PBA draft pick, had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds along with five assists. Most importantly, he confidently made a jumper with 2:15 remaining that put Batangas up for good, 86–85, after they wasted away a 10-point lead in the fourth period.
Batangas seemingly was cruising to their first win in three tries when Victoria Sports came roaring back behind Robbie Herndon whose triple put his team ahead, 85–84, 2:36 to go.
But Sedurifa responded and later, Cedric Ablaza made an undergoal stab with 46.2 ticks left to seal the win. He finished with 15 points and seven boards.
Victoria Sports muffed its chances late, but was given one last shot with 5.5 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, Zach Nicholls’ three only hit the front rim as his side fell to its second loss. Herndon carried Victoria Sports with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
