A fruitful Manila trip

Last Friday, I left Cebu for Manila to consult Dr. Enrique Ona of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) and on arriving there with my companion, we were overwhelmed with the number of people who had kidney problems who were waiting for their respective doctors.

My consultation with Dr. Ona went very well, and he gave me a go signal for a possible kidney transplant provided I first have a cardio workout.

Dr. Ona made me feel comfortable as he spoke the Cebuano language, being a native of Zamboanga del Sur.

After the NKTI, my next itinerary was the home of my former boss, former senator Alberto Romulo.

Senator Bert looked so relaxed even when during his retirement he started and is now finishing his book on a compilation of his speeches he made as senator and foreign affairs secretary.

I asked Senator Bert about his opinion of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, and he spoke highly of the president whom he called an action man.

After visiting Romulo, my younger brother Jun picked me up at Romulo’s home to show me around the malls at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC), and he later picked up his son Carlo in his school.

We returned to the White Knight Hotel located in the historic Intramuros.

The following day was rest day for me, and I stayed the whole day at the hotel and went around its historic surroundings.

On Sunday, we went to Mass at the St. Augustine Church that looked so regal with all the antiques inside the church.

Then my younger brother Jun picked us up for lunch at the BGC, Din Tai Fung and brought us to his condo unit in Acacia Estates, Taguig City.

After the short condo visit, we immediately traveled to New Manila for our 3 p.m. scheduled appointment with the widow and children of the late Tito Nap Rama.

We were so elated to see each other because the last time we saw each other was three years ago during Tito Nap’s 90th birthday.

We recalled the nice times we had as I stayed with them when I studied at the Ateneo Law School together with my cousin Jun.

My trip to the capital region was very fruitful, starting with our flight as we entered the Mactan Cebu International Airport, and I was amazed by the improvements undertaken by the new management.

The airport is now very orderly and no longer chaotic as before, and it’s made travel that much more comfortable.

I would like to thank God for being with us in our short travel to Manila topped by the good news on the probability of a kidney transplant to be performed by Dr. Ona, who was referred to us by Senator Romulo.
