Sorongon rules ‘Solidarity Run’

AFTER placing second in last month’s 7-Eleven Run 21k half marathon in Manila, Ruffa Sorongon returned to Cebu to reassert her dominance of local footraces by topping the 10-kilometer division of yesterday’s first-ever “Solidarity Run” at the Cebu Business Park.

The Cebu-based Sultan Kudarat native clocked 44 minutes and 5 seconds in beating Lovely Fe Andrin (52:29) and Keisha Mae Delechos (53:31).

In the men’s 10k race, Kenyan Eric Chipseror and Joseph Mururi snatched the top two spots, respectively. Chipseror crossed the finish line in 31:57 while Mururi timed at 32:45. Ariel Saballa finished third in 34:45.

Meanwhile, Melody Perez and Kenyan Douglas Mwiti emerged the fastest runners in the 5k race. Perez topped the distaff side in 22:08 beating Moira Erediano (22:09) and Jenneda Arcuino (23:36).

Mwiti clocked 16:19 in outrunning Harold Kim Guiao (17:13) and compatriot James Mebei (17:15).

In the 3k race, Mark Domie Dinoy and Michelle Beboso took the boys’ and girls’ titles in 10:32 and 14:12, respectively. Around 500 runners answered the starting gun of the first running event organized by the Youth Ministry Keepsake Association (YMKA) to raise funds for the ongoing expansion of the Saint John Baptist Catholic Church in Tabuelan town, north Cebu.
