Cebu City tops gymnastics as Cviraa opens today in Naga
With another dominating performance from their gymnasts, the Cebu City Niños padded their gold medal haul to 26 as action in the 2017 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Regional Meet goes full blast today in the City of Naga, southern Cebu.
The Niños turned gymnastics into their virtual goldmine by adding 12 silvers and seven bronzes at the Enan Chiong Activity Center.
At far second is Lapu-lapu City, which has a 6-6-3 (g-s-b) tally while Danao City is running third with two golds, two silvers and a single bronze.
At the forefront of Cebu City’s strong push was Daniella dela Pisa, who swept the gold medals at stake in the secondary division rhythmic sportive event.
Dela Pisa collected golds in the rope and hoop events. Her teammate Marianne Alegado pocketed two silvers.
In the elementary division, Cebu City’s Leanne Marie Manning and Tereshia Rhosse Regner took home the gold and silver medals, respectively.
Geanne Alexa Rallos nailed four golds and a bronze in the WAG’s cluster 1, while Euricka Eisley Soronio bagged five individual gold medals in cluster 2 and teamed up with Rallos and Mikal Hannah Alegre to win the team event title.
Eunie Ginelle delivered three golds for Cebu City after dominating the secondary girls’ balance beam, vault and all-around. Her teammate Francin Ly Coyoca topped the floor exercise and single bar contests.
Euricka Eisley, Eunie Ginelle’s older sister, teamed up with Coyoca and Jessa Bolo for the secondary team event gold.
Meanwhile, some games get going at 8 a.m. today while the formal opening ceremony will start at 3 p.m. at the Doring Mendiola Sports Complex.
Naga has allocated P9 million as host of the multi-sporting event for the second straight year with a newly constructed grandstand and Olympic-size pool, which was completed last year.
The defending champions Niños are gunning for a 25th straight title and will be fielding in at least 600 athletes.
Cebu City won the overall crown last year with 113 golds, 71 silvers and 59 bronzes.
