Suspect in rape of deaf mute in Mandaue nabbed

A company driver was arrested by the police during a hot pursuit operation in Sitio Kapasanan, Barangay Casili, Mandaue City.

Norberto Daug-Daug, 33, a native of Argao town, southern Cebu but temporarily staying in Barangay Tugbongan, Consolacion town, northern Cebu was accused of raping a deaf mute on Sunday evening.

He is now detained at Canduman Police Station pending the filing of a rape case against him in court.

Investigation conducted by SPO2 Tirso Plania revealed that the victim, who is in her early 30s living in Consolacion, boarded a motorcycle driven by a man who introduced himself as habal-habal driver around 11 p.m. last Sunday and requested to be brought to Barangay Canduman in Mandaue City where her two children were left to their grandmother.

The suspect, however, brought her to a grassy and secluded area in Sitio Kapasan, Barangay Casili, where he punched the victim three times in the stomach, causing the latter to faint.

When she gained consciousness, the suspect was already raping her prompting her to kick the man’s groin and scratch his face and run.

Barangay tanods immediately responded to the area but the suspect already fled, leaving behind his black XRM motorcycle (GA 97398) with documents in its U-Box.

The police found a mobile number of the suspect’s live-in partner which eventually led to the arrest of the suspect on Monday noon at a convenience store in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City.

The victim positively identified the suspect as the one who raped her.

The suspect alleged that they both consented the act and that the victim was his girlfriend. He also alleged that his motorcycle was stolen and it was not him who used his motorcycle on Sunday evening.

The suspect, however, could not explain why the victim had scratches and contusions as well as finger scratch marks on his face.

As of yesterday, the Women’s Desk were still waiting for the results of physical examination at the Pink Room of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center to determine if the victim was raped.
