A MAN posing as a special investigator of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was arrested at the parking lot of a mall in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City on Tuesday evening.

Avednigo “Amboy” Origenes allegedly extorted half a million pesos from a man whom he arrested for a traffic violation in October last year.

Recovered from the 40-year-old suspect were assorted identification cards, NBI badges, one pistol and three loaded magazines, NBI-7 Director Patricio Bernales said.

The NBI-7 is set to file charges against Origenes for usurpation of authority, falsification of public documents, illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.

The bureau is also building up a case against Origenes’ girlfriend who allegedly connived with him in conducting the illegal operations.

His girlfriend reportedly claimed to be a niece of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Origenes, who is detained at the NBI-7 stockade, refused to give any statement to the media.

Bernales said a walk-in complainant accused Origenes of forcibly seizing their Toyota Innova van and stayed in his house while extorting P500,000 from his mother who was working in Kuwait.
