The city government of Mandaue will soon crackdown on colorum or unlicensed tricycles plying the city’s streets.
This was said by Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) chief Glenn Antigua after their office received numerous complaints from legitimate tricycle drivers.
“Nang-reklamo ang ubang drivers kay gamay ra ilang kita tungod sa colorum. Ang mga colorum gud di man na sila mu-parking. Bisag asa lang na sila abot (Legitimate tricycle drivers were complaining because their earnings lessened because of colorum. Colorum drivers don’t park, they just go anywhere),” he said.
Antigua said tricycle drivers have to secure a franchise from the Legal Office or else they will be fined and have their tricycles impounded.
Antigua said owners have to pay P1,000 and additional fines for violation before they could get their tricycles back.
Antigua said some tricycle drivers do not get a franchise because they think it is expensive.
The franchise fee, he said, is only less than P2,000 and renewable every three years.
As to the crackdown on colorum tricycles, Antigua said there is no timetable yet as to when they would start implementing it as they still have to discuss the matter with the tricycle drivers’ associations in Mandaue.
There are 13 tricycle drivers’ associations in the city; and one of them, in Barangay Canduman, was already checked by the Team.
Surprisingly, Antigua said most of the tricycle drivers have franchises.
“We want to inform them ahead before we will conduct the operation,” Antigua said.
