ROACHES ON MEAL

Tomas O to resto: Explain why you should not be closed

A costumer’s complaint of finding cockroaches on their meal at a Cebu City restaurant posted on Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s Facebook account prompted the mayor to order the management of the establishment to explain why they should not be shut down.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña, in his Facebook account, shared the complaint of Francis Tallo about the food served to them at the NeoNeo along F. Ramos St.

“Thanks for bringing this to my attention. City Legal is now going to write them a letter asking them to explain why they should not be shut down,” said Osmeña in his response to the Facebook post.

As of press time, the post has been shared almost 2,000 times and has received thousands of reactions from netizens.

Sought for comment, the management of the restaurant refused to give any statement about the incident to CDN.

The incident happened last February 13 at around 1 p.m., the post read, “Me, my senior mom and sister ordered lunch, including mongo soup.Halfway through our meal, my sister noticed that there were some dark specks scattered throughout our soup. Upon close inspection, these were baby roaches,” Tallo said.

The mayor instructed Tallo to submit a letter with full details of the incident.

Osmeña said the report including the photo would be used by the City Legal to pursue a case against the restaurant management.

Osmeña also encouraged the public to directly send to him a letter of their complaints because it would make taking legal action easier.

In the post, Tallo said a City Health inspector went on site and had noted violations.

According to him, the sanitary permit of the restaurant was believed to have expired on 2016.

In a photo comment, Tallo posted a picture of NeoNeo’s kitchen.

“Went on site with the health inspector today and checked their kitchen — roaches and flies roaming around, food racked with shoes down below, dysfunctional and nasty freezer, dishes kept outside accessible to roaches and cats, etc.,” the photo’s caption on the FB post read.
