A song that wasn’t played during a rally held by supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte sparked a confrontation with supporters of the government’s federalism movement at Plaza Independencia, Cebu City, yesterday afternoon.
Igmedio Saliente, chairman of the group Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte (MRRD) Cebu confronted and pointed a finger to Dr. Rowena Burden, the lead facilitator of “Ipadayon ang Kausaban (Continue the Change)” rally.
Rudy Flormata, vice chairman of MRRD Cebu, said they were offended when the song “Pederalismo” was not played during the program. “We were told that this would be played after the program. Who would listen to that if the program was already done?” Flormata told reporters.
The theme song “Pederalismo” was launched along with the People’s National Movement for Federalism (Penamfed) and Mamamayan Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga (Masamasid) at the Capitol grounds by MRRD last February 11, 2017.
During the rally, “Bayan Ko” and “Magkaisa” were repeatedly played. In a separate interview, Dr. Burden said Saliente is embarrassing the president. “He is abusing verbally and his conduct was unbecoming for a person who supports the president,” she said.
When asked if she had any idea about the MRRD’s request for the song to be included in the program, she said she had no control over it after a copy of the program was submitted to the host.
