THE UNIVERSITY of San Carlos Warriors (USC) nipped the Velez College Cougars in a finals rematch from last year, 7-6, in the fourth season of the Cebu Flag Football League (CFFL) Inter-Collegiate Tournament last Sunday at the UC-METC field in Mambaling.
The Warriors scored an early touchdown for a 7-0 lead before the Cougars scored one of their own but was not able to get a point in conversion to still trail, 6-7.
Velez College had a chance to win the game in the dying seconds of the final half, but it was foiled by the defense of the Warriors who have a 5-0 (win-loss) record.
Velez suffered its first loss of the season against three victories.
Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos clinched a spot in the four-team playoffs as they overwhelmed the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats, 12-0.
USJ-R now has a 3-2 record.
The Cebu Doctors’ University, which was fighting for playoff spot with the Jaguars, was ousted after getting beaten by the Southwestern University Cobras, 19-0.
