All-Women’s Ultra Marathon kicks off from Il Corso at SRP

The sixth edition of the All-Women’s Ultra Marathon (Awum) fires off tonight, starting and ending at the Il Corso grounds in South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City.

The race will feature 300 participants from Cebu, Manila, Bacolod, Iloilo, Dumaguete and Bohol who will try to conquer the grueling 50-kilometer race.

Organizers from Think Tank, headed by Tony Galon, said necessary steps have already been taken to ensure the safety of the participants.

Galon said race route will be secured by personnel of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) and Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO).

The race covers major thoroughfares in Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.

Galon added 27 support stations deployed along the route will provide each participant, food, water and other necessities.

“We are ready to go,” said Galon.

Weather forecast

With the weather expected to be gloomy with scattered rains, Galon advised the participants to take precautionary measures.

“We want each of the participants to enjoy the run and keep safe. Trust your instinct in the areas which you think is not safe but we assure each of you that we will have marshals and volunteers deployed in the entire route. We want each and every one of you to be a happy princess upon reaching the finish line and a proud queen when you go home,” said Galon.

There will be sanitary napkin changing stations for participants who have menstruation as well as breast feeding station for participants who have infants and also the signature make up station a few kilometers from the finish line. Aside from the specially designed finishers’ medal, each participant will also receive exciting freebies.

The run will kick off at around 9 p.m. and is expected to end early morning on Sunday.
