SKEPTICAL
While a lot of Filipinos cheered the Senate approval of the Free Wi-Fi bill, not a few were also skeptical and opposed the proposal.
A broadcaster received calls from listeners who said the budget for the program should be realigned to feed the poor.
But there were callers who retorted that there’s a separate budget for that and it would be unfair to allocate most, if not all, funds to the poor at the expense of the taxpayers who also need services.
SUSPENDED MAYOR
A suspended mayor was seen attending an official event at the Capitol to the surprise of local officials and reporters who knew him.
This led to speculations that he attended the event to seek favors and support for the lifting of the suspension against him.
“Hala wala pa ka move on si mayor (The mayor has not yet moved on),” one of the eyewitnesses said.
SOLEMN HOLY WEEK
Some residents in Sta. Fe town on Bantayan Island have mixed emotions on the parties being held in their town during Holy Week.
A professor in one of Cebu City’s top universities who hails from Sta. Fe said the residents cannot do anything if there are people who want to have parties in their area.
“In all fairness, I don’t think they would disrespect the customs and religious traditions of the residents here. Above all else, it should be a solemn Holy Week,” he said.
