A Japanese manager of a hotel based on Mactan Island was arrested yesterday for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl last February.

Takeshi Kon, 50, who has been living in Cebu for over 15 years, was arrested at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday and would be charged with rape and for engaging in child prostitution, said Supt. Royina Garma, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) acting director.

Garma said the victim narrated that on the last week of February, her friend, also 15 years old, invited her to meet up with a guy their age but it turned out to be Kon.

Kon then brought her to a hotel in Lapu-Lapu City, but they were denied entry by the receptionist after seeing that she was a minor. Failing to get a hotel room, the sexual abuse allegedly happened inside the suspect’s vehicle. Kon allegedly gave the victim P1,000 after molesting her.

The victim, with her parents, reported the incident to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) the next day. The LLCPO then coordinated with CIDG-7 to locate and arrest the suspect.

Kon, the manager of a Japanese-owned hotel in Lapu-Lapu City, contacted the victim last Wednesday and asked to meet her, leading to his arrest in Mandaue City at 1:30 p.m. yesterday. He was in the act of molesting the girl, again inside his car, when nabbed, said Garma.
