Miller eyes top 3 finish in Xterra Saipan leg

CEBU’S professional off-road triathlete Joseph Miller guns for a top three finish in the XTerra World Tour Saipan leg this Saturday.

The 37-year-old off-road triathlete from Lapu-Lapu City is optimistic to land at the top three places of the race that features a 1.5-kilometer swim, 30k offroad bike and 12k trail run.

“I will give 101 percent of my best in this race. I am prepared physically and mentally after months of training here in Cebu,” Miller said.

The former bike mechanic turned elite triathlete said he has worked on his biking skills in preparation for the race, which is considered as the “Crown Jewel” of the XTerra that has a pot money of $10,000.

“I’ve joined various mountain bike races to improve my skills in biking and hopefully this will help me reach my goals for this year,” he said.

Miller finished seventh in last year’s XTerra Malaysia and sixth in the 2015 XTerra Guam.

Miller competed in four XTerra races last year as part of the Asia Pacific Tour. He said he enjoys competing in Xterra races.

“I love the unpredictability of the race course and it always keeps me guessing. XTerra is full of surprises and most of all you enjoy the wonders of Mother Nature while competing,” said Miller.

After XTerra Saipan, Miller is set to compete in the Consolacion Duathlon slated March 26.
