THE UNIVERSITY of San Carlos (USC) Warriors pocketed their second straight Cebu Flag Football League (CFFL) Inter-Collegiate Tournament title after turning back the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 8-6, in the Super Bowl Finals of the competition’s fourth season yesterday at the UC-METC field in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

SWU, which thumped last year’s runners-up Velez College, 18-6, in the semis early in the day, looked headed to the crown after Sean Eslit’s opening touchdown.

But with their backs against the wall, the Warriors’ Cherry Callorina forced a big-time defensive stop that led to USC’s winning plays.

With 1:45 left in the half, Callorina stripped the ball from the Cobras’ Jimbo Mainit before USC skipper Gen Bongo converted a touchdown that tied the game at 6-all.

The Women’s Season MVP Sarah Gapusan, then scored in a conversion play off a pass from quarterback Justin Renegado for the go-ahead points, 8-6.

“I was not surprised by her (Callorina) because she really works hard in practice,” Bongo said. “It was really the highlight of the game for us.”
Callorina went on to bag the Super Bowl Finals MVP and Women’s Best Defensive Line Defender award.

University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) collared the third place trophy after scoring a 20-6 win over last year’s runners-up Velez College.
