MAO BA?

FED UP WITH DUTERTE

This city official seems to be fed up with repeated pronouncements by President Duterte on the illegal drug menace and its infiltration of government agencies and barangays all over the country.

He said the President’s language and approach seems to be promoting animosity among government agencies and local governments.

“Buang man ni nga presidente (This president is crazy),” he would sometimes say as he dared reporters to quote him on this. But later on, he would say it was just a joke.

DARK OFFICE

A small office inside City Hall appears to be abandoned until one sees two employees sleeping while seated near the door.

A reporter who went there hesitated to enter since the lights were out until he was spotted from the far end of the office and was told to get inside.

He did and the lights went on and they kindly accommodated his request for documents.

TWO WEEKS’ NOTICE

While deliberations in the City Council are usually serious, they can also get light sometimes.

There was one time when the presiding officer moved to defer approval of an ordinance for one week and the proponent casually replied, “Bisag two weeks pa (Even if it’s two weeks), Mr. Chair,” drawing laughter from his colleagues.

Since there were still more questions and concerns raised, the presiding officer eventually decided to defer the proposal for two weeks.
