FOLLOWING a resounding debut in the United States, Filipino boxer Romero “Ruthless” Duno earned a major break after he got signed by the Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar dela Hoya in Los Angeles.
The 21-year-old Duno (13W-1L-12KOs) of the General Santos City-based Sanman Boxing Gym recently snatched the WBC Youth Intercontinental lightweight belt via a sensational second-round knockout win over erstwhile unbeaten Christian “Chimpa” Gonzales (16W-1L-14KO) at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.
“We have signed a multi-year promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions. We feel and trust that they are the best company who can guide Duno to his ultimate dream,” said Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil.
In a press statement, Dela Hoya, chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said Duno has what it takes to become the next big thing in Philippine boxing.
“We saw Romero’s power in the ring, he is the real deal. He has exceptional power, along with the talent and desire to be a great fighter. He could be the next big boxing star from the Philippines as time is on his side, and I’m pleased he chose Golden Boy to introduce him to a wider audience in the US,” Dela Hoya said.
Duno returned to a hero’s welcome in General Santos last Wednesday.
“I am very thankful to Golden Boy Promotions for giving me a chance to showcase my talent on the big stage,” said Duno.
