USC expects tougher time going for third CFFL title
After topping the Cebu Flag Football League (CFFL) Inter-Collegiate Tournament recently, the University of San Carlos (USC) knows that defending the title again isn’t going to be easy.
The Warriors defeated Southwestern University (SWU) last Sunday at the University of Cebu-Maritime Education and Training Center field in Mambaling, Cebu City to be crowned champions anew.
For being back-to-back champions, USC knows all eyes will be on them in the next season.
“We have to prepare well for next season,” Warriors captain Gen Bongo said. “Winning the title the first time was hard. The second time was harder and defending it for the third time will really be much harder.”
Bongo said in order for them to succeed, the team will try to work on its chemistry.
The two-time champion Cobras were actually in the brink of taking back the crown after erecting a 6-0 lead. But the Warriors’ Cherry Callorina came up with a defensive stop that turned the game around.
“That play (of Callorina) meant the world to us because it gave us the championship,” said Bongo.
Bongo scored the game-tying touchdown before Women’s Season MVP Sarah Gapusan led the Warriors to an 8-6 lead with barely a minute left. SWU would not have enough time to recover after that.
“I am thankful because I saw my teammates get confident after I made that play,” said Callorina, who also bagged home the Super Bowl Finals MVP and Women’s Best Defensive Line Defender award.
