THE UNDER Armour Ultimate 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will have a leg in Cebu on April 22 and 23.
The tournament is a qualifier for the Fiba Asia Under-18 3-on-3 Championships that will be held in Cyberjaya, Malaysia on May 26 and 28.
The Cebu leg is one of only two tournaments in the country. The other will be held in Manila on April 27 and 28. The Cebu venue, however, has yet to be announced.
Only one team from the Cebu leg will earn a spot to the championships in Manila to face the top three teams of the Manila leg. A selection from the four finalists will then be tasked to represent the country in the Malaysia cagefest.
Legendary coach Joe Lipa, who is also the tournament’s commissioner, and technical director Edward Aquino were at Under Armour’s Cebu outlet at the Ayala Center Cebu earlier this week to discuss the details about the tournament.
“Cebu is the birthplace of so many excellent basketball players. So we are very excited to see them in action and hopefully a Cebuano player can get qualified for the Fiba Asia U18 3-on-3 Cup,” Lip said.
The champions of the Manila and Cebu legs will receive SGD 1,000.
“This is the first time Under Armour will hold this kind of tournament for the Philippines,” added Lipa.
Interested teams have to register online at www.ua3x3.com while payment of the registration fee of P5,500 has to be paid at UA’s partner store at the Olympic Village at the Ayala Center in Cebu. Deadline of registration is on April 9.
