THE PENGUINS won their third in a row after they flattened the Tigers, 102-56, in the Cebu Weekend Basketball Club basketball tournament last weekend at the City Sports Club Cebu basketball courts.
Seven different players scored in double-figures for the Penguins, which is fighting to secure a spot in the eight-team playoffs. The win, their seventh in 11 tries, placed them in a three-way tie for fifth place.
Former University of San Carlos standout Mike Cantonao led the team’s balanced attack with 15 points, six assists and four rebounds while Brent Quina added 14 markers. Jom Laksamana tallied 11 even as Jason Chan, Procs Camacho and Brian Deodoro all had 10 each, while combining for a whopping 33 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs kept it going as they won for the 10th time in 11 games with a 75-70 victory over the Hogs (4-6). Borgy dela Cruz had 20 markers while Ed Macasling notched 13.
The Roosters (9-2) also kept close to the leaders with a 76-73 win over the Scorpions (4-7). Cronwell Lacuna had 20 points and 16 rebounds while former Southwestern University guard Jabby Bautista chipped in 15 points and four assists to help negate the incredible 32-point, 19-rebound performance of former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto for the Scorpions.
The Cobras (6-5) also remained in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs with an 89-79 conquest of the Toros (7-4).
The Bears thwarted the Pythons, 87-83, for their seventh win in 10 games. Ex-SWU wingman Francis Ortega and AJ San Juan paced the winners with 20 and 17, respectively.
