Cuizon secures q’final seat in JRG Tennis Cup

CEBUANO netter Chad Connor Cuizon brightened his chances of winning another title as he clinched the first quarterfinal spot in the 10-unisex category of the 22nd JRG Gullas Cup, which started yesterday at the Citigreen Tennis Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

The nine-year-old Cuizon, who has been a dominant force in the division where he is ranked by the Philippine Tennis Association as the second best player in the country, lived up to his lofty billing by beating fellow Cebuano Scofield David Tabura, 4-1, 4-0.

Cuizon will next play the winner in the Gio Manito-Vincent Cañete match, which is set to be played today.

Manito moved to the second round with a 6-0, 6-0 spanking of John Lataza in the 12-under boys category.

Over at the Naga City Tennis Club, Cebuano and International Tennis Federation sensation Venz Anton Louise Alforque defeated Dave Brigole, 6-1, 6-2, to zoom into the second round of the premier 18-under boys division.

The 17-year-old Alforque will be facing the winner in the Rucel Cero-Francis Rosales which was being played as of press time.
