Mandaue City gov’t dismantles 20 structures as it raffles off lots in Guizo, Mantuyong areas

Six members of the Pinagkakaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) who lives in the 9.2 government donated lot covering barangays Guizo and Mantuyong in Mandaue City sought support from their organization to oppose the raffling off of lots in the area.

The Housing and Urban Development Office (HUDO) of Mandaue City raffled off lots in the Guizo-Mantuyong fire site, which was being redeveloped, at the city’s sports complex on Thursday afternoon.

Using a car with a public address system and megaphone, they called on HUDO team to stop the raffling off of lots.

According to Nilo Gartohan, a beneficiary of the government donated lot and member of PISTON, they are opposing the raffling of lots because those whose names don’t get picked were not assured of a place to live.

With 657 benefeciaries in the area and only 369 lots being raffled off, some 288 families can no longer go back to their place in the site, which was hit by fire in March last year.

Some 50 residents in the area also supported their call.

Meanwhile, illegal structures built along the site were demolished by a team sent by Mandaue City government while the raffling of the lots was ongoing.
