Cebu South Bus bracing for influx of passengers returning to city

An influx of commuters coming back to Cebu City is expected on Monday with the Holy Week now over.

Joey Herrera, chief of the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT), said there would still be 65 to 70 bus trips, which is the number of recorded bus trips on a regular Monday morning at the Cebu South Bus Terminal.

Herrera said that the difference, however, would lie in the number of passengers that each bus would carry for the trip as most buses this time would have passengers full to capacity.

He said he would expect a heavy volume of passengers coming from the south.

“Early morning, daghan gyud na sa kadto nang manrabaho (On early morning Monday, there will be many passengers returning to the city to return for their work here),” he said.

Herrera also said that there were 1,124 bus trips recorded by the terminal management during the Holy Week when people rushed to go home or visit the south of Cebu.

He said these trips were made last Wednesday and Thursday.

He said that with each bus averaging from 45 to 50 passengers, there would be around 50,000 to 56,000 passengers who traveled to the south for the Holy Week.

Herrera said he noticed a change in pattern of passengers traveling to the south with more passengers queuing starting at 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

He said he believed that this was a way for the passengers to beat the heat and so they preferred traveling in the evening than during the day.

Herrera also said that they had three standby coasters which only served priority passengers including senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.

These coasters only made trips when the volume of people was large and additional bus trips would be needed.

The coasters, however, were only used last Wednesday and they made three trips to Carcar City.
