Organizers are expecting the Cebu Dragon Boat Fiesta to be the biggest dragon boat race in the country so far.
This as the event slated April 28 to 30 at the Cebu Yacht Club has attracted more than 1,000 paddlers and 38 teams.
There were dragon boat races in Boracay and Palawan but none of them attracted this much participants.
Of the 38 squads, four are internationals teams while 10 teams are from Luzon. The rest will be from the Visayas.
Expected to participate in the event are powerhouse teams Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy and Army which will be competing in the elite division.
“We are really looking forward to a good race,” organizer Nonnie Lopez said.
Also competing in the races are the Icanserve Team of cancer survivors and the PADS team of persons-with-disabilities.
The Cebu Dragon Boat Fiesta 2017 is presented by the Provincial Government of Cebu and the Philippine Sports Commission in cooperation with the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue and the Dragon Boat Cebu Central.
