Toyota Team Cebu eyes more titles in 2017 Vios Cup season

Team Toyota Cebu (TTC) has had a good run in the Toyota Vios Cup since it joined in 2015.

After six leg championship trophies and nine podium finishes, the the team still doesn’t have any plans of being contented.

In fact, this year, it is vying for more and the team’s bid starts at the second leg of the 2017 season in June at the famous Clark International Speedway in Angeles, Pampanga.

“We are still hungry,” the team’s captain Lord Seno said in a press conference at the Casino Español Monday afternoon. “We want to become the best team in the Philippines. We are aspiring to be the best team for 2017 and realistically win an overall class championship.”

Also present during the press conference were Jette Calderon, Sean Velasco, Oscar Suarez, team manager John Velasco and Team Principal Dodo Cuenco.

The first leg of the 2017 season is set this weekend. But the team decided to compete on the second leg at the Clark International Speedway on June 8 to 10 to give them enough time to train.

“We want to make most of our training in Manila which we only do once when there’s a race, and usually when we train, there we do a hundred laps a day and we also engaged in a physical training to keep us very well conditioned on the races,” said Calderon, who won the Super Sporting Class in leg 3 last year.

The team has high hopes for Calderon, even though they know that he’ll be be up against 15 of the best circuit drivers in the country.

“We were very proud of Jette when he won in Clark. It somehow put Cebu on the map in the national motorsport scene despite the fact that Cebu does not have a racing facility. This goes to show that Cebuano talent will shine if given the opportunity,” Seno said.

There are four legs set for this year and TTC hopes that the third leg will return here in Cebu. The last time Cebu hosted the race was in 2015, when the team first joined.

The team is supported by Standard Insurance Cebu, MMF Cebu, Commonwealth Insurance, Shaldan Automagic, Q8 Hotels, OZ Racing, Vianson Auto Repair, Suarez and Sons Inc., X1R, Solane, Solid Construction and Johnny Air Plus
