Maroons interested in services of Cebuana spiker Kate Chantal Rodriguez
Add the University of the Philippines (UP) to the list of schools interested in the skills of Cebuana utility hitter Kate Chantal Rodriguez.
In a message sent to Cebu Daily News, UP team manager Cecile Ronquillo said the team is interested in acquiring the Cebuana spiker in the hopes of strengthening its core for the future.
The 16-year-old Rodriguez left the University of San Carlos (USC) last month due to financial reasons and has started to shop for teams in the past weeks. She joined tryouts of the University of Cebu (UC), University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), and most recently the Southwestern University (SWU).

Ronquillo said the team is willing to help Rodriguez with her tuition fee problems. Rodriguez left USC due to the ancillary and miscellaneous fees that were a little too costly for her.
The former USC team captain, who will turn Grade 11 this year, said she already talked with Ronquillo and felt ecstatic with the offer. But the decision, according to her, will be made by her parents.
“My mother hasn’t decided where should I play next,” said Rodriguez, who said a decision may be made next month.
Should she decide to push through with UP, Rodriguez will just be the first Cebuana acquisition of the Maroons this year. Last summer, UP acquired SWU’s Mycah Go and Danao City’s Krich Macaslang.
The vaunted Lady Maroons squad currently have two Cebuanas in their official lineup in Catmon Cebu’s Isabel Molde and Justine Dorog.
