A MOTORCYCLE rider died after he crashed onto a trailer truck while speeding along the national highway in Barangay Sangat, San Fernando town Cebu at 9 a.m. yesterday.

Joseph Abellana, a 26-year-old resident of Barangay Pakna-an, Mandaue City, died at the Carcar City District Hospital.

PO3 Reynaldo Tañeca of the San Fernando police precinct said Abellana was headed south and tried to overtake a dump truck only to be accidentally sideswiped by the driver.

He said Abellana lost control and bumped onto the left side portion of the trailer truck driven by Richard Suarez, a 53-year-old native of Barangay Tampi, San Jose town in Negros Occidental.

Suarez was headed to Cebu City to deliver crude oil when the accident occurred. Abellana, who wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time, sustained severe head injuries.

PO3 Tañeca said Abellana had bled profusely when he was brought to an ambulance and rushed to the nearest hospital.

Suarez is detained at the San Fernando police precinct.

Tañeca said they will wait for the victim’s relatives to decide on the case.
