De Lima and Nobleza’s frailties

Recently, there are two high-ranking government officials who were once perceived as strong women and fighters but have failed badly in their respective careers because of the so-called “frailties of a woman.”

First is Senator Leila de Lima who admitted to having an illicit affair with her driver, bodyguard and lover Ronnie Dayan. Second is Police Supt. Maria Cristina Nobleza who also admitted having an affair with Renierlo Dongon, alias Kudri, a bomb expert of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

De Lima is allegedly involved in a drug syndicate while Nobleza is involved in the terrorism and kidnap-for-ransom syndicate. The two powerful women are now under the custody of the law inside Camp Crame.

Both women are older than their men. But they deserve to be given the benefits of the doubt of their relationships; after all a popular saying said, “Age doesn’t matter.” But knowing the circumstances of their stories, people cannot avoid thinking of the many possibilities why the two women entered into complicated relationships.

In the part of De Lima, it can be said that she is in love with Dayan who was “macho” during the existence of their illicit affairs. It can also be said that Dayan, despite being legally married, was after the former’s money. Anyhow, De Lima admitted to helping Dayan financially to construct an expensive huge house.

On the other hand, Nobleza is like a lucky person who won a jackpot price in a lottery because it can be said that she gets both love and money in her relationship with Dongon. The question is does Dongon feel the same? Note that the age gap between the two is vast. Nobleza is in the early 50s while Dungon is 29 years old. In terms of money, Dongon, a hard-core ASG member with sisters married with ASG founders and commanders, is presumably richer than Nobleza.

So the interesting person to be asked here is what is Dongon after in his relationship with Nobleza? If indeed their relationship is anchored on pure love, then we can say that Dongon is really in love with Nobleza without any condition considering that he is more marketable than the latter in terms of age and resources.

In this scenario, the government forces are in the losing end because Nobleza was the one who followed Dongon. She betrayed the government and the people who pay her salary so much and shifted her loyalty to the ASG, the organization of her bomb expert lover, Dongon.

If, however, love is not the anchor of Dongon’s relationship with Nobleza, then the inevitable question is, is it not purely for connection purposes? Is it not purely a dirty tactic of the ASG, like Delilah in the Bible who pretended to be in loved with Samson but misled him for her own gain? If so, is the PNP being outsmarted by the ASG? On the aspect of intelligence gathering, is it not that the ASG has a great and very reliable infiltrator at the expense of the PNP?

The PNP and AFP have to study further the techniques of the ASG because it seems that the latter is using foul ways just to advance its interest. The government forces in all aspects must have more steps ahead of the ASG.

Everyone has frailties. It is understandable for as long as it cannot violate a law and affect a career. But in the case of Nobleza, who intently betrayed like Judas Iscariot, she has to face the consequences of her frailties.
