THE Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children is helping a three-year-old girl who was molested by her eight-year-old neighbor in one of the southern towns of Cebu province.
Hedda Largo, Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC) gender and development officer, said they got wind of the incident from one of their social welfare officers who dealt with the families of the two children.
Their identities are withheld since they are minors.
“The mother of the three-year-old girl went to sell her products and left her daughter with her five-year-old brother,” Largo said.
When the mother came home, she saw that her daughter was already bleeding and the older brother told them what happened.
The girl was immediately brought to the city and underwent a medical examination at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. The boy’s parents were also there.
“I think parents should watch over their children to prevent incidents like this. But also with the advancement of technology, children can be influenced to do bad things,” Largo said./Xavier University Intern April Alexis B. Agustin
