ON TO THE QUARTERS

 

Bogo City booked a quarterfinal ticket with a 98-63 drubbing of Bantayan in the North Division Bracket 3 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament last Wednesday night at the Don Celestino Martinez Sports Coliseum in Bogo City, north Cebu.
It was Bogo’s fourth win in as many games and will close its elimination round assignment at home on May 17 against Madridejos.

Bogo did not waste time in tearing the game apart as Justine Valenzuela dropped three three-pointers that keyed the team’s 30-12 solid start.

Valenzuela, nephew of Bogo head coach and former PBA player Junthy Valenzuela, stayed hot in the second period where he scored 11 points in a 20-11 run, giving Bogo a huge 50-23 lead.

Valenzuela went on to finish with 22 points to lead Bogo. Marlone Batac added 17, Agustine Salundaguit chipped in 14 and Serg Jay Alburo donated 11 for Bogo.

Romeo Sumbi Jr. fired 12 points, Gerson Forrosuelo and Joshua Renz Ortiz pitched in 10 apiece for Bantayan, which tasted its second loss in four games.

Meanwhile, Medellin chalked up a crucial win in its bid to claim the second spot, beating Sta. Fe, 86-74.

Medellin used a 27-16 fourth quarter run to tie its victim’s slate at 2-2 (win-loss).

Fritz Saladaga paced Medellin with 24 points, Riel Veloso piled up 24, while Julius Kevin Bustrillo and John Riel Booc added 10 each.
Percebal Zasia scored 24 points for Sta. Fe, John Elmer Villabrille donated 16 points, while June Michael Giducos added 15.

In South Division Bracjet 2, Ginatilan pocketed its first win in two matches by downing erstwhile unbeaten Dalaguete, 76-67; and Oslob notched its first victory after a 0-2 start via an 87-74 triumph over Alcoy.

The game between Samboan and Boljoon was canceled due to heavy rains that flooded the Samboan Municipal Court.
Games resume today in separate venues.

At the Sogod Municipal Gym, Balamban (1-1) guns for its second win versus Borbon (0-1), Danao City (2-0) tries to stay unbeaten against Sogod (0-1), while Asturias (0-1) looks to barge into the win column when it battles Carmen (1-1).

For the South Division games at the Alcantara Municipal Gym, Toledo City (2-0) takes on Algeria (0-2), Barili (2-0) stakes its unbeaten record versus Badian, while Dumanjug (1-1) tests home team Alcantara (0-2) in the main game.
