Quiñanola sustains solid run in NAGCC

 

Continuing her superb run, Cebuana Regina Catherine Quiñanola seized the solo leadership in the under-14 girls division of the ongoing 2017 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC) Grand Finals yesterday at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Quiñanola, a gold medalist in the recent Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique, chalked up wins rounds six and seven to accumulate six points.

Isabela’s Ruth Vinuya and Davao’s Irish Yngayo trailed Quiñanola with 5.5 points each.

Another Cebuana player, Alphecca Gonzales, moved to a third spot after a draw and a loss in the sixth and seventh rounds, respectively.

Gonzales is tied at third with Regina Catherine’s younger sister Mary Margarett with four points apiece.

Also, Cebuano players Jave Merick Peteros, John Lester Belano and Laila Camel Nadera remained in contention in their respective divisions.

Peteros remained at second place in the boys’ under-14 division with five points together with Christopher Kis-ing and Chrisus Sarchez. Daniel Quizon was ahead with six points.

Belano tallied 5.5 points after winning against Gabriel John Umayan and Fern Albert Falle in rounds six and seven in the under-12 boys division.

Belano is tied with Joshua Michael Yongco at second place with 5.5 points.

Leading the division was Michael Concio Jr., with seven points.

Nadera, on the other hand, had 4.5 points, trailing Women’s FIDE Master (WFM) Allanney Jia Doroy, who was leading the under-18 girls division with six points.

Also at second place was Alexis Anne Osena.

Keith Claire Carlisle Morala was dislodged from second place in the women’s under-20 division after losing to current leader Mira Mirano in the sixth round.

Mirano leads the division with 5.5 points with WFM Marie Antoinette San Diego, Ella Grace Moulic and Venice Vicente at second place with five points apiece.
